There's definitely going to be a particular excited buzz in the air this weekend, when Sydney twins Cosmo's Midnight take to the stage at this year's Outsidein Festival at Manning House. the AU interview: Devin the Dude (Houston) on his first Australian tour, career, DJ Screw, and more

Rap-a-Lot Records may not have the same profile the great southern rap empire once had, but that certainly hasn't stopped the label's legacy from flowing freely throughout both the underground and commercial hip hop of today. The Houston-based label played an unmistakable role in lifting "Southern Rap" to the point where it has played a highly influential role in not just the hip hop industry, but the contemporary music world in general. From DJ Screw to OutKast, Devin the Dude to DJ Toomp, you can find a lot that borrows from the south these days, even with performers like Miley Cyrus and that confusing EDM perversion of "trap music". It's then reasonable to call these Southern rap figures originators, and few deserve that title as much as the aforementioned Devin the Dude, who is finally making his way out to Australia as of next week for a five-show tour. I caught up with the man often referred to as "raps best kept secret" to find out more what he has in store for us.
