BINGE has unveiled a first look at its upcoming original series Apocalypse, while also confirming longtime Australian television presenter Jonathan LaPaglia as the show’s narrator.
Best known for hosting Australian Survivor and Top Gear Australia, LaPaglia will guide viewers through the eight-part reality series, which poses a simple but daunting question: Could you survive the end of the world?
Co-commissioned by BINGE and the UK’s Channel 4, Apocalypse has been filmed in a genuine abandoned town that now serves as an urban warfare training facility. The large-scale social experiment strips away the comforts of modern life, challenging a group of ordinary people to rebuild, adapt and depend on one another as they navigate an unforgiving post-disaster environment.
After spending almost a decade watching contestants outwit, outplay and outlast each other on Australian Survivor, LaPaglia said the concept immediately appealed to him because of the way it explores resilience and human behaviour under extreme pressure.
“When I first heard about Apocalypse, I was immediately drawn to the scale and ambition of the project,” he said.
“I’ve spent years watching people navigate pressure, strategy and uncertainty, but this takes those dynamics into a completely new environment. Dropping ordinary people into a post-disaster world where every decision matters creates a fascinating test of resilience, relationships and survival. I can’t wait for audiences to experience the twists, challenges and unexpected moments that unfold.”
For BINGE, the series represents one of its most ambitious original productions to date. Howard Myers-Rifai, Head of Unscripted Originals at Foxtel Group, described Apocalypse as a landmark commission, highlighting the collaboration with Channel 4, The Garden and ITV Studios Australia in bringing the expansive concept to life.
