Jacki Weaver & Byran Brown lead all-star cast in Stan Original series Bloom

Two-time Oscar nominated actress Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) will lead an all-star cast in the upcoming Stan Original series Bloom. The six-part drama series from Playmaker will be distributed by Sony with principal funding from Screen Australia.

The all-star cast will also include Bryan Brown (The Light Between Oceans, Red Dog True Blue), Phoebe Tonkin (The Originals, Safe Harbour), Ryan Corr (Holding the Man, Hacksaw Ridge), Daniel Henshall (Okja, The Babadook, Snowtown) and Sam Reid (’71, Prime Suspect 1973, The Railway Man).

The series will be based around a murder mystery, taking place one years after a devastating flood killed five locals in a sleepy country town. When a mysterious plant appears with the power to restore youth, so begins a tale of awesome power; and the lengths some will go to in order to keep it a secret.

Stan’s Chief Content Officer Nick Forward commented on the series, stating “The assembled cast, including the remarkable Jacki Weaver, is a testament to the uniqueness of Glen’s vision, the scale of the production and the calibre of Playmaker and Sony as our local and international partners on the project. With a director of John’s track record behind the camera we couldn’t be more excited to be kicking off production across Victoria on our biggest Original yet.’

Bloom is created by Glen Dolman (Hawke) and produced by Sue Seeary (Love Child, House Husbands) and captured by AACTA-winning cinematographer Geoff Hall (Red Dog, Chopper). Mat King (Pine Gap, Dr Who, Law & Order United Kingdom) will also jump on board to direct the few final episodes of the series.

Bloom is currently filming in various locations across Victoria and will look to premiere exclusively on Stan sometime this summer, with Sony Pictures Television to distribute the series on a global scale.
