How to do National Doughnut Day in Australia 2017

Tomorrow (Friday 2nd June) is National Doughnut Day. While technically an American celebration, Australia is once again hijacking the tradition and some of our favourites are getting involved. Need we explain any further? We’ve rounded up some of the best exclusive National Doughnut Day happenings across Sydney and Melbourne so you can be ready for that crazy sugar rush that inevitably comes with free fatty food.

Bistro Morgan (Melbourne)

One of Australia’s most popular (and for good reason) doughnut shops – you know, that famous one owned by a high school student – is doing what every National Doughnut Day celebration should be doing, and that’s giving stuff away for free. For one day only anyone who heads along to Bistro Morgan in Windsor will receive a free mini special doughnut with every purchase (one per customer), plus have access to substantial deals like the doughnut + shake combo for $9.50 and a six-pack for $25.

190 High St, Windsor | Open until 9pm

Krispy Kreme (National)

Krispy Kreme is going full Oprah for this year’s National Doughnut Day, once again prepping for an Original Glazed giveaway but pushing up stock to 30,000 freebies. The brand’s beloved and highly indulgent signature will be available for one day only, pushed out for free to hungry doughnut lovers on Friday 2nd June.

Getting your hands on one of these bad boys is fairly simple. Krispy Kreme will be making the giveaway available at all across the country, available to anyone who simply heads along and asks for one during each stores respective opening times. Though do take note that the giveaway is only available in any of the 19 official Krispy Kreme stores across NSW, VIC, WA and QLD; you won’t able to game the system at a 7-Eleven or Jesters (or even the SA stores).

“National Doughnut Day is our favourite day of the year and we’re escalating celebrations with our biggest giveaway ever”, said Head of Marketing for Krispy Kreme, Russell Schulman. “Our customers love seeing the Original Glazed come hot off the doughnut line. To celebrate the day, we invite Aussies to clear their diaries and come into one of our stores or tune into our Facebook live stream to watch our doughnuts being made”.

Some Krispy Kreme stores in Australia have different opening times, which you can check HERE.

Lukumades (Melbourne)

If you’re around West Melbourne on Friday evening had straight to Lukumades. The popular shop will be giving away free boxes of their finest donuts between 6pm and 7pm, and they aren’t just limiting it to one flavour. Freebie-freaks will have the choice between classic cinnamon & honey, generous drizzles of Nutella, crushed Oreo sprinkles or salted caramel goodness.

83 Peel St, West Melbourne | 6-7pm

Dandee Donuts (Melbourne)

Head along to Dandee Donuts on Friday from 8am to 4pm and you’ll be able to get your hands around a free jam doughnut. Yep, just like that. It’s as simple and beautiful a celebration as they come, all you need to do is look out for their famous gold and purple van at their Dandenong Market location.

39 Clow St, Dandenong | 8am-4pm

Grumpy Donuts (Sydney)

We’re not quite sure that Grumpy Donuts are doing anything exclusively for National Doughnut Day but they’re without a doubt the best in Sydney, so it’s a no-brainer to head along here and devour as much as you can on Friday. Their Camperdown store offers up a great range of staples and specials so if variety is what you’re after we’ll see you there. Or you can just grab some from UberEATS!

72 Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Camperdown | 8pm-4pm

Doughnut Time (National)

Trust this mega-popular chain to be doing the most come National Doughnut Day, introducing not one but three “mega doughnuts” (that’s super-sized doughnuts mind you) come Friday. First up, the D’oh! Nut, then the Chris Hemsworthy and lastly the nutella-filled Big Poppa. If that’s enough the Australian chain will be introducing a new low gluten doughnut to the menu: the Meet Half Baked, which is iced with a cream and chocolate glaze and then topped with low gluten cookie dough and chocettes.

Milk N Sugar Reloaded (Sydney)

Didn’t get enough of last weekend’s over-the-top three-day dessert festival at Overseas Passenger Terminal? Well the organisers are bringing it back for both Friday and Saturday, in the same spot to coincide with The Artistry Festival. This time there will be street food and live music alongside artisan desserts including Kurtosh doughnut ice-cream cones from Hungary Bites, gluten-free glow in the dark doughnuts from Nutie, crepes from Khao San, a pimp your own doughnut station from Pimp My Doughnut, coffee and ice-cream from Bar Coco and spin glow in the dark fairy floss from Fluffy Crunch. Sugar High Desserts will also be unveiling its new Waffle Pops, topped with bacon, honeycomb, pretzels, fruit-loops and Nutella. Entry is free as well so get to it. More information on the festival can be found HERE.

Cargo Hall at Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay | 6pm-11pm

Doughboy Doughnuts (Melbourne)

Head along to this gem on Bourke Street because they’ll be using National Doughnut Day as an excuse to launch their brand new milk chocolate & strawberry cheesecake doughnut, with all proceeds going directly to the Koala Kids Foundation which helps raise awareness for children with cancer. The regular menu will also be available on the day of course, so if you’re in the area keep this one in mind
