It’s hard to believe that the quintessential local emo record by one of Australia’s most beloved punk bands turns 10 this year. To celebrate this milestone, Trophy Eyes will be performing Chemical Miracle in its entirety around the country this October and November.
The Newcastle quartet have also announced they will release a 10-year anniversary vinyl of the seminal record on 13 November via Hopeless Records, including demo and live versions of the songs.
An era instantly recognisable by the iconic noose-and-palm-tree image, Chemical Miracle is characterised by flinchingly honest lyrics with soaring melodies and gang vocals over fervent muted riffs. It gave a voice – and hope – to many who felt like they didn’t belong in a world that can be both cruel and beautiful, proving what’s possible with the right people by your side.
From anthemic opener “Chlorine” to poignant closer “Daydreamer”, the album not only defined a generation of broken outcasts and hopeless romantics but also forever changed the band’s career.
“It’s difficult to put into words what Chemical Miracle has come to mean to us,” frontman John Floreani says. “When we wrote it, we were just trying to make sense of where we were in our lives. We never imagined those songs would find a place in so many other people’s stories too.
“We don’t get to celebrate milestones like this without you. Thank you for giving this record a life far beyond what we ever expected.”
The Chemical Miracle 10-year Anniversary Tour is hitting Melbourne and Adelaide in October, then Sydney and Brisbane in November, with supports yet to be announced. Fans will be treated to circle pits and crowd singalongs to old favourites with familiar faces.
