As we waltz through March, we’ve added ten more songs to our Discovery playlist on Spotify and Apple Music, including two tracks we exclusively premiered earlier in the week. Our track of the week is “People Come, and People Go” from Elana Stone, an artist who is a firm AU favourite.
Elana is a wonderful songwriter and an incredible singer with the innate ability to create melodies that warm the heart. About the track, Elana writes: “I have always struggled with the fact that people can come and go from your life without warning – no matter how much love and time you have invested in them – there is no guarantee they will stick by you – the only thing anyone can guarantee is that everything will change. When I listen to this song I can hear that I am ready to move into that next stage of life which is where I find myself now – with a loving partner and two tiny kids. I’m lucky enough to have a roof over my head and still be working steadily in the music industry. Overwhelmingly the song is joyous and hopeful but it was written at a time of complete personal upheaval and confusion about my identity, my relationships and my place in the world. “
Acclaimed jazz musician Kamasi Washington this week confirmed the release of his new album, Fearless Movement, which is set for release on May 3rd. Accompanying the announcement was an early taster of what listeners can expect with lead single “Prologue”. Ironically its the album’s closing track and comes in at a tidy (and completely relentless) eight-ish minutes. It’s a striking reminder of the sheer skill and artistry of Washington and his band. Stunning!
Tia Gostelow has committed to releasing a new track every month for the remainder of 2024. No pressure, Tia! Today, she has released “All Ur Sorrow”, a touching and poignant song written in response to a dear friend going through a difficult breakup and wanting to ease their pain. About the track, Tia writes “I love the musicality of this song, the chords are funky, the bass holds the song together and keeps it moving and the nylon guitar and harmonies really bring it all together. It feels like a breath of fresh air putting this out finally and I think it’s slightly different to something people expect of me.“.
“Wild God” is the title track and first taste of the 18th studio album from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, which is set to be released on August 30th. Writing for the album began on New Years Day 2023 and features co-production from Cave and Warren Ellis. “Wild God” is the perfect introduction, full of rich and emotional storytelling and this bold and almost euphoric musicality. According to Cave, “there’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.” That’s undoubtedly true on “Wild God”
“Can’t Leave You Behind” is the vibrant and summery new single from European artist Martin Oh. Co-produced by SOHN, the single is a bright and bold explosion of electro-pop. It demands your attention and practically drags you to your feet to dance; and with a new EP on the way expect more of the same in the future too!
The debut concept album from the Naarm shoegaze outfit Keaper, shines in “The Painting, a dreamy jam of ethereal vocals over dripping guitar and meandering drums. A highlight of the record, it showcases all they have to offer with a busy climax that will leave you wanting more.
We’ve also got two exclusive premieres this week; KingIbis (“Cooling Embers”) and Slow Cinema (self-titled EP).
