“Hoops” beats out “King Kunta” as The Rubens take out triple j’s Hottest 100!

In case you were on a radio/social media black out yesterday or simply didn’t pay enough mind to tap into every conversation surrounding the formation of the 2015 Hottest 100, some boys from Menangle beat Kendrick Lamar to the top spot. With their tune “Hoops”, The Rubens were named #1 in the poll that saw over 2 million people around the world submit their favourite songs played on the station throughout the year.

“Hoops” rose about out over 16,000 plus songs submitted to nab the Number One spot, which many thought would have gone to Lamar’s “King Kunta”, Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s “Lean On” or a cut from either Courtney Barnett or Tame Impala’s 2015 releases. If you weren’t paying attention on socials yesterday (we certainly had fun with it…), check out the Top 10 below and tune into triple J from 10am January 30th as presenters replay the entire 100-1 countdown. If you’re wanting to know what made the 101-200 spots, triple J will also be broadcasting this countdown from 10am, January 31st.
