Exclusive Video Premiere: Tasman Keith “Mission Famous” (2018)

At the end of last month Tasman Keith dropped his debut EP Mission Famous, proving himself in the process to be one of the most exciting new voices in the Australian hip-hop scene. Now, a month later, we’re excited to be premiering the music video for the EP’s title track, ahead of its official release later in the week.

A proud Gumbaynggirr man, Tasman Keith’s Mission Famous EP was designed as a way to shine a light on some of the forgotten aspects of Australian culture, and is an attempt to bring the communities of regional Australia to the front and centre as well as to the attention of a wider audience.

The “Mission Famous” music video is an extension of that drive. Filmed over the weekend of the EP’s release the video focuses in on Bowraville, a small town in regional NSW and the location of the EP’s launch party. The video which was created in collaboration between Tasman Keith, Joey Hunter, Harry Hunter and Tom Black incorporates footage from that party alongside family photographs, all of which serves to strength the track and the project’s links to the community. Speaking about the film clip, Tasman Keith said:

“The film clip is about bringing together the concept and art of Mission Famous together. It shows a side of Bowraville which is rarely seen. The whole driving point of this project is to shift the way people view Bowraville and other indigenous communities.”

“Mission Famous” is the last piece in the story that Tasman Keith started earlier this year, as he explored the values of the indigenous community in Bowraville. In “My Pelopolees”, it was the sense of family, whilst in “Divided”, he highlighted the struggles experienced and felt by the community and others. Finally, with “Mission Famous”, he turns to the positives and celebrates the communities vibe, spirt and love of life, or as Keith explains “how we overcome everything”.

Mission Famous is available now. You can find Tasman Keith on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. He’ll also be finishing up the first leg of his Mission Famous tour at Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar this Friday, with support from Kobie Dee, Jannah Beth and SonBoy. Tickets can be found HERE
