Video game series Thief to receive a film adaptation

Long running video game series Thief is set to receive a movie adaptation courtesy of Straight Up Films, Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh  and screenplay writers Adam Mason and Simon Boyes.

Thief tells the story of Garret, who is inducted by a secret society and tasked with putting his very unique set of skills into practice. The games are set in the middle ages and deal with themes of fantasy and the industrial revolution.

“This popular game is entirely unique within the genre, which is why we’re particularly excited to be working with these canny, dedicated filmmakers to bring it to the screen,” said Straight Up principles Polvino and Cohen.

Lee’s credits include The Lego Movie, The Departed and The Ring. He is also working on the Minecraft movie and Dungeons & Dragons.

Askarieh’s credits include Hitman and the sequel Hitman: Agent 47.
