Star Wars: Episode VII adds Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie

Star Wars Actresses

One month ago when JJ Abrams and Disney announced the incredible ensemble cast for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, fans around the world rejoiced that such a high quality cast had been selected to accompany us on our next journey into the Star Wars universe. Despite this positive response to the actors chosen, many were concerned by the fact that unknown actress Daisy Ridley was the only female cast member apart from returning star Carrie Fisher. Rumours swirled that the announced cast was not complete, and that Abrams had been meeting with a great number of actresses in an attempt to fill out his cast.

Well we now know who those actresses are, and we cannot deny that Abrams has chosen well. Joining the already announced cast will be Lupita Nyong’o, who won an Oscar this year for her heartbreaking performance in 12 Years a Slave, and Gwendoline Christie, who has greatly impressed viewers since nailing the role of Brienne on Game of Thrones. While there are no details of who the two actresses will be playing in the film, rumours have suggested that Nyong’o may be portraying a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Regardless, it’s safe to say that it would be incredibly awesome to see either of these great actresses wielding a lightsaber. All signs are currently pointing towards Abrams giving us one hell of a movie!

Nyong’o and Christie join the already-bursting cast, which includes Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew and Max von Sydow.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be released in Australian cinemas on December 18th, 2015.
