Australian Rock and Roll explored in new ABC documentary Blood and Thunder: The Sound of Alberts.

Australia’s rock and roll history will be explored in the upcoming two part documentary, Blood and Thunder: The Sound of Alberts.

The documentary surrounds the Australian rock and roll industry in the 1960s and 70s, and the two families that dominated the rock scene: the Alberts and the Youngs.

Part one, Blood, explores music producer Ted Albert, his endeavour to find a definitive ‘Australian sound’, and his finding it in Australia’s working class. Working for his family business, J Albert and Son, Ted signed bands such as The Easybeats, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Stevie Wright, and the Young family – also known as AC/DC.

Part two, Thunder, explores the rise of the Youngs and the success of AC/DC during the ’70s. The partnership between the Alberts and the Youngs sees AC/DC skyrocket to worldwide fame, amidst the death of their original frontman Bon Scott. Meanwhile, Ted Albert is also finding success in the pop arena, producing acts such as John Paul Young and his famous song, “Love is in the Air”.

The two-part exploration into Australia’s rock and roll golden age will be a must for any music fan, and will no doubt be a fascinating look into Australia’s cultural environment during the tumultuous and revolutionary 1960s and ’70s.

Part one, Blood, will air on Thursday, 25 June at 8:30pm on ABC, with part two, Thunder, airing the following week, on Thursday, 2 July.
