Just the other week, Australian designer eyewear brand Oscar Wylee officially opened their very first Melbourne store. Located on the ground floor of Melbourne Central Shopping Centre, next to Footlocker, the brand new store’s interior design is bright and chic, an appropriate capture of their vintage-inspired eyewear.
Created by Michael Lim and John Teoh, Oscar Wylee first started off in Sydney as a small online retailer of fashion sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses. Since then, the Australian brand has steadily grown to build physical retail stores in five different locations around Sydney. Fast forward to the end of 2016, and Oscar Wylee has built enough commercial momentum to open their first interstate physical retail store in Melbourne.
Just like their Sydney stores, the new Oscar Wylee store in Melbourne Central offers bulk billed eye-tests, along with personal styling sessions to help you find the perfect set of frames. One of the highlights of the Oscar Wylee brand is that everything from designing the frames to manufacturing and sales, are done in-house. Meaning that every pair of Oscar Wylee prescription glasses and sunglasses available for sale, come direct from the factory, resulting in reasonably affordable prices for a designer brand and quality.
In addition, Oscar Wylee have their very own charity initiative called “I Care for Eyecare”, focused on helping disadvantaged communities around the world gain better access to quality eye-care. As part of the initiative, a portion of every single Oscar Wylee sale goes towards providing financial support for small and transparent charity organisations such as Rose Charities Cambodia, which provide free eye tests, surgeries and distribution of prescription glasses to members of disadvantaged communities in the region.
