Set to open next year, Universal Studios Hollywood has finally revealed more information about the park’s first ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster. Here’s everything we know!
The ride is called Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, inspired by Universal’s endlessly popular Fast & Furious franchise.
According to its press release, the coaster “will rocket guests up to 72 MPH along 4,100 feet of elaborate track, meticulously constructed with sound reduction technology for a breathtaking experience.” That speed (about 116 km/h) will make it the fastest roller coaster at any Universal theme park around the world. Fast & Furious, indeed.
This ever-so-slightly overtakes Orlando’s incredible Jurassic World VelociCoaster by 2MPH. Though it will remain the fastest and tallest launch coaster in Florida.
The artwork revealed (above) shows just how elaborate and clever the design of the coaster it – spinning guests over the iconic escalators that take you from the Upper Lot to the Lower Lot (where Super Nintendo World is found).
The animatic that has been released also shows off the movement you can expect on the coaster – with each individual ride cart able to rotate 360-degrees across the 4,100 feet (1250 metres) of track.
Keen-eyed viewers will also note that the cars themselves are designed to look like cars used in the film – including Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger, pictured below. There will be four different vehicles used in the attraction.
In addition to the roller coaster itself, there will be a garage-like structure inspired by the films that will be where guests queue up for the attraction.
While the date is still unknown (we only have “2026” as an indication), one would expect the ride to open just in time for Summer 2026.
