This week in the music industry: MTV Breaks  Australian winner Brady Flockart performed  at the 2016 MTV EMAs, winners of the Melbourne Prize for Music 2016 were announced, and Cooking Vinyl Australia and Epitaph Records announced a new label services partnership.

Last week, on 7th of November, young Australian DJ Brady Flockart was announced as one of the winners of the international MTV Breaks competition, and performed at the 2016 MTV EMAs in Rotterdam. In addition to performing at the EMAs, MTV also showcased his musical work and provided him with mentorship from industry insiders before and after his appearance at the EMAs.

Launched in 2014, MTV Breaks is an on-going global program aiming to address the issue of youth employment by giving young adults a chance to kick-start a career in the creative industries through a variety of apprenticeships and paid internships in key markets around the world. Melbourne Prize for Music 2016

On Wednesday 9th of November, Kutcha Edwards was announced as the winner of the prestigious Melbourne Prize for Music 2016, for his outstanding contribution to Australian music. Each year the esteemed prize, worth $60,000 is given to a local artist for their outstanding contribution to Australian music and enrichment of cultural and public life. Kutcha Edwards also received the inaugural Distinguished Musicians Fellowship 2016, worth $20,000.

Other winners of the night include; Scott Tinker winner of the Outstanding Musicians Award 2016Kate Neal winner of the inaugural Beleura Award for Composition 2016, and  Matthias Schack-Arnott winner of the Development Award 2016. 

Cooking Vinyl Australia and Epitaph Records announce new partnership

On 7th November, Cooking Vinyl Australia and Epitaph Records announced a brand new label services partnership, which will see Epitaph veteran Dave Jiannis join the Cooking Vinyl Australia team in the newly created role of Senior Product Manager. As part of the new partnership, Cooking Vinyl will be applying their marketing and promotion expertise to priority Epitaph and ANTI- music releases. However, Epitaph product distribution within Australia and New Zealand will remain with ADA.

The inaugural National Live Music Awards night is fast approaching! The event will be held at eight different venue locations around the country on the 29th of November 2016, handing out a total of 51 awards across a wide range of categories. The night will also feature more than 20 performances across the eight venues, including surprise guest appearances and a series of surprise DJ sets.
