Freya Skye performs her biggest show to date at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on her Stars Align Tour

Sixteen-year-old pop powerhouse Freya Skye performed her first-ever arena show in Melbourne on Thursday, wrapping up the Australian leg of the Stars Align Tour. With one EP under her belt and having only started performing live shows within the last year, Skye’s performance was nothing short of impressive.

The Cosmic VIP experience was well worth the upgrade cost, with a pre-show VIP party as well as access to the Q&A and early entry. Inside the VIP party, patrons could take photos in a set made to look like Skye’s dressing room, leave a message for her, take photos in the Photo Booth and make their own bag charms.

The soundcheck and Q&A featured Skye doing an acoustic cover of Gracie Abrams’ “Hit The Wall”, as well as an impromptu mashup of her tracks “Petty” and “Why’d You Have To Call”. She answered a few pre-selected questions from the audience, and showed immense excitement and gratitude.

Opening the official concert was Aussie singer-songwriter Jack Gray, who has made quite the name for himself on this tour, sending teen fans into a frenzy. Just himself, his guitar and a backing track- he played his own hits as well as covers like Noah Kahan’s “Orbiter” and Sombr’s “Back To Friends”.

At 8:45 sharp, the Stars Align tour intro started and Skye burst out of the stage to sing her hit song “Can’t Fake It”. The set design was incredible, with curtains of diamond lights lining the stage, and a staircase set which allowed her to move across the stage and give everyone a great view.

Her energy was at an all-time high, and there were moments where the crowd was so loud you almost couldn’t hear anything at all. She played pretty much her entire discography, which only consists of around 13 songs. Highlights were definitely “Silent Treatment”, “London” and “Petty”, as well as the encore of “Gold’s Gone”, which saw her use confetti for the first time during a performance- something she’s openly wished for.

The show was fantastic: wholesome, energetic and powerful. Skye’s gratitude felt completely genuine, and at times she could be seen simply soaking it all in. It was the perfect first concert for my kids, but I enjoyed it just as much. This seemed to be a common demographic throughout the night: parents with their young teens. But no matter the age, everyone was having the best time, which is a true testament to Skye’s stage presence and catchy songwriting.

As her biggest headline show to date, it’s clear Skye will not forget this performance any time soon, and neither will we.
