New Music Discoveries 6th November: Ruby Rodgers, ALEIA, Georgie Winchester, and more

Welcome to this week’s Discovery Playlist, with ten new tracks added and ready to stream now on Spotify and Apple Music. Our Track of the Week is “For You” (feat. Jessica Mauboy & Jem Cassar-Daley), the captivating new single from Ruby Rodgers.

Ruby wrote the song with Shane Nicholson in his Melbourne kitchen, and it’s a wonderfully tender piece of songwriting: intimate, delicate and a little bit magical, about learning to let go of other people’s expectations and live for yourself. Nicholson’s acoustic guitar is gorgeous throughout, sitting right alongside Ruby’s voice.

Jessica Mauboy and Jem Cassar-Daley, two of our finest songwriters and vocalists, sing backing vocals, and the three voices blend beautifully. You can see that chemistry in the performance video, filmed at Freight Train Music Studios where the track was recorded.  “For You” closes Ruby’s new EP Sixteen, out now via EMI Music Australia.

“Middle Name” is the latest release from Boorloo artist ALEIA. Channeling the frustrations of unrequited love, “Middle Name” is a brooding and striking slice of confessional indie rock; it ebbs and flows nicely between these slow burn verses and the more emotionally charged choruses. Similarly the airiness of ALEIA’s vocals offers up a striking counter to the track’s heavier vibes. In the hands of a lesser artist “Middle Name” could be riddled with cliche and be all a bit much; but instead ALEIA has created something that captivates and entertains amidst the heartbreak.

Keeping things in Boorloo, we’ve also added “Woman Like You”, the focus track from Clancy‘s debut mixtape Pretty Intelligent Girl (out today). Clancy is the solo project of Clancy Davidson, who some of you might know from her work across a whole string of Australian acts, including smol fish and Noah Dillon. The track pairs insightful lyricism, ethereal vocals, with this wonderfully bold, glitchy electro-pop soundscape.

Hobart’s A. Swayze & The Ghosts are back with “Hot Sun”, and it’s an intense one: dark and growling, with an infectious groove that’s hard to shake. It’s a song about a planet getting hotter while we all carry on as though everything’s fine. Wiry guitars and a punk-rock bite drive it, and Andrew Swayze’s vocal is all sneer and swagger. The band wrote and recorded it over three late nights in an Airbnb in rural Tasmania, and you can hear that urgency in it. Catch them on tour with Jimmy Eat World this December.

Georgie Winchester is a singer-songwriter we’ve long admired, and today she releases her second album, Dust & Salt. “Take My Time” is the focus track and the album’s closer. It’s another restrained, intimate song, a love song that ends on a note of hope, with lovely vocals and gorgeous electric guitar. Georgie is an indie artist from Maitland, NSW, and her songs cut straight to the heart: they get under your skin and stay there.

Released earlier this week, “Somebody’s Fool” is the new single from Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits, and the second release from their forthcoming third album. Available in all the usual places, the single also features on a special split 7″ release with Mick Thomas’ Roving Commission, and comes off the back of their shared tour at the end of 2025. “Somebody’s Fool” is a gorgeous offering of soulful alt-country. Starting slowly, and firmly in ballad territory, the single builds to something altogether grittier and more grounded.

Also added to the playlist this week are “HUNGOVER”, the grungy, impactful opening track of Arkomai, the debut album from Brisbane rockers SPEIRA. Alongside them we have Silver Man, the musical alias of industry veteran David Silverman, and his jazz/hip hop tinged new single “Every Step”. Finally, we’ve also added premieres from Shumo AG (“Young Boy Young Girl”) and Jollee (“199”).
