Inteview: Fountaineer on why “I can’t write another f**king song about Bendigo”

The AU’s Larry Heath recently sat down with Tony White of Fountaineer to talk about their long awaited debut LP Greater City, Greater Love (in stores now).

On the release of the album, Tony notes the longevity these songs already have with the band, having formed some time ago.

“The album’s been a long time in the making; we recorded it three years ago. The songs are a little bit older than that. …I’m still trying to learn how to play guitar! A lot of the songs were written on a piano or keyboard.”

The prominence of Bendigo itself on the record too was no fleeting decision during the songwriting process, as Tony explains.

“I’d been away for a little bit and then had come back home, it’s about things that happen in a small town. …I can’t write another fucking song about Bendigo, as much as I love it! I don’t really know how [new stuff] will pan out, but we’ll see.”

“I think I’d written a lot of introspective music in the past which just doesn’t mean a lot to a lot of people; in this record, Bendigo became like the muse or the focus. It’s about a place.”
