Boorloo/Perth artist ALEIA turns betrayal into a chilling roadside ghost story in the accompanying video for her gripping new single, “Willpower”. Ahead of the song’s release tomorrow, the AU review is thrilled to premiere the haunting new clip today.
Produced by Dylan Ollivierre (The Money War, EDIE, Joan & The Giants, Siobhan Cotchin), “Willpower” captures the chaotic emotional fallout that follows a devastating breach of trust. Lulling synths, sparse overdriven guitar, glowering piano and a marching snare create a sense of steadily mounting tension, while ALEIA’s intimate delivery keeps the fury controlled and unnervingly close.
The track gradually builds into a slow-burning piece of alternative indie rock that feels equally fierce, heartbreaking and cathartic. Following the release of her debut EP, Public Humiliation, in November 2025, “Willpower” brings a sharper grunge-pop edge to ALEIA’s emotionally direct songwriting.
“Willpower” turns the wreckage of betrayal into something eerie, cinematic and fiercely controlled.
A self-described overthinker, ALEIA explains: “’Willpower’ is a song that explores the chaotic emotional turbulence you experience after someone has betrayed your trust and the extreme lengths someone will go to get even.”
Directed and produced by Stephanie Senior of Clearwater Films, the accompanying video draws heavily upon folklore surrounding the ‘Woman in White’, a ghostly figure often associated with loss, trauma and an inability to let go of the past.
Set beside a lonely road, the video begins with a muffled confrontation involving a couple inside a car. ALEIA’s character is abandoned following the encounter, but she remains tied to the location, slowly transforming into an embodiment of ‘The Woman in White’.
There are also striking allusions to the legend of the Pilliga Highway Princess, as ALEIA begins haunting the site of the argument and its surrounding landscape. Her continued presence becomes a poetic representation of resentment and the way a painful event can hold someone captive long after it has ended.
Beginning at dusk before falling into darkness, the clip uses sharp lighting and contrast to give ALEIA an increasingly spectral presence. Senior’s atmospheric visuals complement the track’s gradual crescendo, allowing its simmering anger and supernatural imagery to intensify together. Exploring the fragile intersection between self-worth, betrayal and revenge, “Willpower” is devastating, liberating and uncomfortably intimate.
