Follow your own path, and create your own destiny. Listen to yourself, and not so much to others. This is the theme for “Hear Me” from Melbourne-trio Just A Leo. We are thrilled today to have the first listen of this genre-bending anthem ahead of its release tomorrow, Friday 28th January. “Hear Me” is the lead single from their second EP, due to drop later in the year. We had the pleasure of premiering “Hideway” from the band last year, and their creativity continues to impress.
Just A Leo have the knack of producing tunes that have a warm familiarity and a welcome step into the unknown. “Hear Me” is a euphoric mix of dance and indie-pop. Kalliope’s vocals are rich and soaring. They are captivating and gripping as the track progresses into a swirling anthem destined for the dancefloor. Fans of The 1975, Radiohead and Florence + the Machine should find plenty to love in this one.
Kalliope gives some background to “Hear Me”: “I’ve gone through life never questioning my beliefs. During our lockdowns, I began meditating daily to cope and came to realise that the majority of my views weren’t actually mine. I started unpacking myself and realised I don’t want to live a ‘normal’ life. I want to chase my music career and experience the world. People around me need to respect that. For example, I don’t want to start having kids until later in life. Friends have actually said to me ‘you should really re-consider that,’ as if I haven’t made an educated decision. I wish I said: ‘Insteading of judging me, maybe ask why and just listen for once.’ To make up for things unsaid, I wrote this song.”
“Hear Me” was mixed by Toby Dundas (The Temper Trap) and mastered by Adam Dempsey (Angie McMahon).
