The countdown to the debut album continues for Brisbane’s alt-rock singer/songwriter John Drake, with “Descending Love” as the next single to be released. We’re pumped today to be premiering this gorgeous new song, driven by a dream that love was just around the corner, ahead of its release on Friday.
John Drake’s ‘Descending Love’ is more than just a song. It’s a personal journey, a premonition of the love that was yet to come. As he recalls, “Descending Love was written as a subconscious premonition of my now fiancé. I wrote it about six months before I met her, I didn’t know who it was about at the time. I was lying in the bed of my cold London flat, having awoken from this dream that I really couldn’t explain,
it was this feeling that descended upon me. Almost like a silhouette of a person which evolved into an imagination of this person that would come into my life and change my life forever, and that was her.”
“Descending Love” is delivered with his trademark rich vocals, warm, meticulous acoustic guitar, and vivid, heartfelt storytelling. The track beautifully captures the feeling of finding your soulmate and the joy of knowing that a rich and rewarding life awaits. The production and instrumentation give clarity to this sweet emotional embrace.
The track will be on his debut album, Separation Songs, set for release in 2026. The album was recorded with ARIA-winning engineer Cody McWaters and longtime friend/producer Chass Guthrie. We were lucky enough to premiere the first single, “Siren“, in July.
“Descending Love” will be released on streaming services on Friday. Be sure to pre-save it HERE.
