Brilliantly capturing the joy of summer with an upbeat ’60s sound is “Summer Daze”, the latest single from multi-instrumentalist Kat Greta. This tune will take you back to those carefree summer days infused with ocean swims, BBQ’s and good times – shared with friends and family without a care in the world. We are thrilled to be premiering “Summer Daze”, with an accompanying video, before its release on Friday.
Kat describes the background to “Summer Daze”. “I feel like I’m sharing my most authentic self in this song,” she explains. “Recreating the essence of the ‘60s in a new way was a challenge—it’s not the kind of song that people would expect to hear these days. This song is my love letter to the Australian summer, but it’s also about holding on to the things that matter, especially as I navigate my own cultural identity. As both of my parents are unwell and I’ve lost close family members recently, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to preserve traditions, memories, and the feeling of belonging. This song is my attempt to honour those pieces of myself—my Italian heritage and my connection to Australia—while embracing change.”
Musically, “Summer Daze” draws inspiration from icons of the 1960s era, such as Burt Bacharach, The Seekers, and The Beatles. The song pays homage to the optimism of the 1960s and is liberally sprinkled with modern pop fairy dust. It’s the perfect musical pairing for its fond reflection on the joys of an Aussie summer.
Kat has just wrapped up a regional Victorian and NSW tour, rounding out the start of 2025 with this nostalgic banger. She is a true multi- instrumentalist and is involved at every step of the process. As well as being the singer and songwriter, Kat is also the producer, drummer, pianist, and percussionist.
The video was filmed at the iconic Mt Martha beach boxes, with their gorgeous rainbow colours. “We wanted to capture the colour and essence of the Australian summer, and the beach boxes were the perfect setting,” Kat explains. “The video takes the viewer on a journey, just like the song, reflecting how special and unique this culture is.”
