Exclusive Single Premiere: FVNERAL “FROZEN LASAGNE” (2023)

Eora/Sydney-based indie rockers FVNERAL are about to add another potent and poignant gem to their catalogue, via the cathartic and caring new track,  “FROZEN LASAGNE”. We’re thrilled today to be premiering it ahead of its release on Thursday, 18th May.

“FROZEN LASAGNE” is an introspective ballad,  searching for a means to lead a better life, to show more care and be aware of the needs of those that you are close to. “I’m terrified that who I am now is who I will always be” the protaganist sings. The harmonies between Tim Blunt and Ally Turner are sweet and emotive. A driving beat, and beautiful keys keeps the track focused. There is a powerful vulnerability that weaves its thread through this heartwarming song.

About the track, the band writes: “‘FROZEN LASAGNE’, in a literal sense, describes a panic attack in the supermarket freezer aisle. In a broader sense, it’s about arriving at a crossroads, recognising that you hold the people closest to you to a higher standard than you hold yourself to; expecting empathy from those who you haven’t been willing to offer it to. It’s about looking at the people who have shown you so much kindness and care and realising that you haven’t been reciprocating. The song details the search for the good inside yourself – the good that the people who love you see, or at least hope they can see again someday.”

The track was co-produced by band member Tim Blunt (Stand Atlantic, Birds of Tokyo), and Phan Sjarif (Middle Kids, Cry Club, Velvet Trip), who also mixed the song.

We also have the accompanying video for the single. It’s as sweet and heartwarming as the song itself. It was filmed and edited by Lorena Rabbani and very much has a ‘behind the scenes’ feel to it. “The song paints some super glib pictures of mental ill-health and inner turmoil, so it was important for the video to counterbalance all of that,” they explain. “We wanted it to be fun, funny and playful, so we enlisted the services of a particularly selfless friend who managed to eat an entire 1kg family-sized frozen lasagne in about 10 minutes.”
