She may be only seventeen years old, but WA’s Angelina Curtis is winning hearts everywhere with her heartfelt and insightful songs. We are thrilled today to be premiering the rich and daydreamy “Stereo”, ahead of its release on Friday.
Angelina has a gift for creating music that is perceptive and relatable. Dreamy electric layers are interwoven with flowing guitar riffs, resonant vocals, and electronic beats. The vocals are clear and expressive, perfectly suited for the storytelling lyrics, and her ability to reach impressive high notes adds a celestial touch to the song. Whilst written through the prism of a young adult, “Stereo” will have broad appeal, especially for fans of Lizzie McAlpine, Hozier and Chappell Roan.
About the track, Angelina writes; “a metaphor for trying so hard to go somewhere but making no progress. The delusional attempt to be better, be more, be seen, be at the forefront of someone’s mind, and eventually realising that you’re just something in the background, like a stereo.”
Many fans came to know of Angelina via the 2023 edition of Australian Idol in which she made it through to the final eight, and performed in front of Perth’s RAC Arena – at the wee age of fifteen. She started performing and writing music much earlier however. Angelina has synaesthesia – she perceives specific colors when she hears certain chords of music. This unique ability has been synthesizing into beautiful music since she wrote her first song “Fire Between” at 10 years old, the song that earned her first Song Of The Year Nomination.
