Ahead of its official release on March 7th, we’re excited to be premiering “Thrill Me”, the new single and accompanying music video from Melbourne’s AM Reruns (f.k.a. Lip Sync Chicks). Recorded and mixed by Robert Muinos (Saskwatch, Little May), the single is the second to be lifted from the band’s debut album, which is due for release later in the year.
The AM Reruns formed in 2016, with a desire to play a reduced, yet stylish brand of guitar music replete with snappy intros and 1960’s inspired songs. Their 2018 single “Looking For A Victim” saw the band get significant radio play both at home and internationally, with the song recently making the playlist for cult LA radio show Go Deep With Bruce Rave.
New single, “Thrill Me”, with its strong chorus and Californian power pop vibes, has been a highlight of the band’s live shows since its introduction into their set last year. To mark its release the band will be playing their first ever residency, with a weekly show at the Tote Hotel Front Bar through March.
The accompanying music video, directed by Chris Brown, with camerawork by Josh Hackett, was filmed in the band room at Melbourne venue Nighthawks in Collingwood. Talking about the video and shoot, guitarist and vocalist Andy Campbell, said: “It was very DIY – we brought in some blue metallic curtain to hang from the back wall. The idea was to make the room look like a school formal, or a cheesey 21st birthday party. The song is about crushes, and how they can hit anyone, at any age and at any time. So the school formal aesthetic seemed appropriate. We deliberately played to an empty room, because it brings out a more intense performance from a band, and it concentrates the focus on the players. And also, the empty room suits the melancholy aspect of the music. We were also really glad at how everyone’s hair turned out. It’s new-wave guitar music, you’ve gotta look the part!”
“Thrill Me” is released March 7th. AM Reruns debut album will be released in August 2019. You can catch the band during their residency at the Tote Hotel Front Bar throughout March (dates below). Be sure to keep up to date with the band via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
