Last year we premiered “Wasting Time”, a breezy single from Melbourne singer-songwriter Duxie Franklin, and today we’re thrilled to have her back with the exclusive first listen to her latest, “I Feel You”, ahead of its release this Friday, 16th October.
Where “Wasting Time” celebrated doing absolutely nothing, “I Feel You” is far more tangled. It’s a sensual song about the pull of attraction: a shared glance across a room, and the tension of wanting someone intensely.
The opening line, “I feel you looking at me”, sets up that intimacy straight away. But there’s uncertainty underneath the desire. As the song goes on, the push and pull gets harder to ignore, and the narrator ends up somewhere between giving in and wondering whether she should be protecting herself. It’s sultry and yearning, packed with smouldering vocals and desire.
Working with producer Patrick Ament, Duxie has gone for a lush, atmospheric sound that matches the lyric’s intensity.
It follows last year’s five-track EP, In the pool, wasting time, and this year’s single “After the Storm”. Duxie has always had an ear for imaginative arrangements. Here she puts it to work on something much more personal, and it’s the most exposed we’ve heard her.
Duxie told the AU review about the feelings behind the track:
“I Feel You…not as in, ‘I get what you’re saying’. But as in: I feel your eyes on my skin. I feel your smile make my stomach flip and my cheeks flush. I feel your presence when we’re in the same room. I feel you like I’ve been sleepwalking through life and suddenly, now, for the first time, I’m awake. I’m alive!
This song is about unmistakable, undeniable magnetic attraction. The heart-pounding yearning and twisting of desire that you may not be able to act on, but that completely takes over every moment you’re near this other person.
I want people to indeed FEEL things when they listen to my music, and I hope that this track and the atmospheric, hypnotic production provided by the incredible Patrick Ament, does just that.”
Duxie will celebrate the release with a launch show at George Lane in St Kilda on Friday, 23rd October, backed by her band, with support from Melbourne outfit Punchbowl. Tickets are available HERE. Get along and support live music.
