E3 2021: Koch Media unveils Prime Matter, new game publishing arm

Media outlet Koch Media has unveiled its brand new video game publishing label, Prime Matter. The label, which will shepherd titles like Payday 3 and Encased to release enters a market increasingly devoid of mini-major publishers.

The sizzle reel, embedded below, spotlights a number of the games in Prime Matter’s portfolio. Some, like Kingdom Come: Deliverance are already available. Other titles, like the long-awaited Painkiller reboot, are still in development. “Undefined form and unlimited potential” is the definition that Koch prefers for Prime Matter, conveyed in their gaming portfolio.

Industry veteran Mario Gerhold will manage the label. It will run alongside Koch’s other media concerns.

Here’s a list of just 10 titles involved:

  • Payday 3 (Starbreeze)
  • Crossfire Legion (Blackbird Interactive)
  • King’s Bounty 2 (1C Interactive)
  • Encased (Dark Crystal Games)
  • The Chant (Brass Token)
  • Gungrave G.O.R.E. (Iggymob)
  • The Last Oricru
  • Dolmen (Massive Work Studio)
  • Codename Final Form
  • Echoes of the End
  • Painkiller (yes, THAT Painkiller)

The bulk of the Prime Matter portfolio is comprised of larger indies and AA studios. Nothing in its portfolio could be considered AAA. That said, what this kind of scope buys you is the ability to take risks and try new things. We’ll be watching this new label with a great deal of interest.

Koch Media ANZ represents Prime Matter in Australia.
