Elle, the prequel series to Legally Blonde, drops colourful teaser ahead of global launch

Before she conquered Harvard in pink stilettos, Elle Woods was just trying to survive high school.

Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Elle, the upcoming prequel series to the beloved Legally Blonde franchise, ahead of Amazon’s annual upfront presentation in New York on May 11th. The series will premiere July 1st on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide – and in a strong vote of confidence, a second season has already been ordered before the first has even debuted.

Set in 1995, Elle rewinds the clock long before Elle Woods became the fashion-forward law student audiences fell in love with. Instead, the series follows a teenage Elle navigating the chaos of high school life, complete with messy friendships, first love, and a wardrobe full of questionable nineties fashion decisions. While the series leans into the fun and charm synonymous with the franchise, it also promises a more emotional coming-of-age story, particularly through Elle’s close relationship with her mother.

At the centre of the series is Lexi Minetree stepping into the iconic role of Elle Woods, joined by June Diane Raphael as her mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt. The ensemble cast also includes Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz, with recurring appearances from Jessica Belkin, Danielle Chand, Matt Oberg, Chloe Wepper, Logan Shroyer, Sharon Taylor, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek.

The series was created by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon executive produces through Hello Sunshine alongside Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, and Marc Platt. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directed the first two episodes and also executive produces.

The newly released teaser hints at a vibrant mix of nostalgia, humour, romance, and heartfelt family dynamics – all wrapped up in the unmistakably pink world of Elle Woods.
