Brisbane’s Torizon drop emotional new single “Currents”

Meanjin/Brisbane petalcore outfit Torizon are back with their new single “Currents”, the third chapter in the story of Sam and Luna, characters navigating the aftermath of a tragic miscarriage.

Taken from upcoming EP Meliora, “Currents” follows on from previous singles “Bloom” and “Sober”, exploring themes of grief and resilience. The band say:

“This track reflects the part where Luna is still in the undertow of grief, confronting trauma re-emergence after losing her baby. We used the ocean as a metaphor – those tidal pulls mirror trauma-formed neural pathways she has worked hard to rewire. The shoreline represents her healed self, the place she keeps returning to despite the challenges. ‘Currents’ will resonate with anyone who has dealt with PTSD and childhood trauma.”

Layered and rich, there’s juxtaposition galore in “Currents”, reflective of the push and pull of that metaphorical ocean Torizon speak of. It’s also seen in the back and forth vocals from frontwoman Misha Sharma and bassist Ben Gallaher, and in the blend of sounds, from a gentle stillness to the almost cinematic. It’s another compelling addition to the tale of Luna and Sam, continuing Torizon’s M.O. of long term storytelling and tackling difficult subjects.
