Photo Gallery: The Great Escape – Day 1 ft. Pete Doherty, Alix Fernz, Jagged Baptist Club & more (14.05.25)

The 2025 edition of The Great Escape kicked off in Brighton on Wednesday. The sun was out and there was hard choices to be made about what who to see. So many venues, so many artists.

One of the early highlights was Canada’s Alix Fernz, at only seventeen years old, he had the Hope & Ruin steaming with his post-punk alt-rock pop. Creative and spell-binding.

Switching it up, and indeed heading upstairs at the Hope & Ruin, was the raucas and highly entertaining Jagged Baptist Club who hail from Los Angeles. Lead singer Blake Stokes has charisma to burn, and they had us dancing from the off.

The headling spot light artist this year was Pete Doherty, of The Libertines. He was on absolute top-form, demonstrating what a gifted songwriter he is.
