The 2016 FBi SMAC Awards were held at Carriageworks in Sydney overnight, celebrating the city’s arts, culture and music communities. The recognition of Sydney performers, musicians, artists, events and restaurants – and their impact on the creative network – was immense, with thousands of Sydneysiders having their say in the publicly voted categories.
At the awards ceremony, hosted by FBi’s Sweetie Zamora and Al Grigg, live performances were handled by Middle Kids, Julia Jacklin and L-FRESH The Lion, while the likes of Jacklin, Shining Bird and Keep Sydney Open‘s Tyson Koh all took home awards.
It was a particularly special night for Koh, who was awarded the 2016 SMAC Of The Year for his work championing Sydney’s nightlife and creative culture. FBi’s Managing Director Clare Holland said of the award: “Our SMAC of the Year winner is someone who decided to stand up and take action; to ensure that his view and those of his community weren’t ignored. He built a movement from the ground up, which developed such a groundswell that it demanded he be given a seat at the table. He gave a voice to our frustrations and ensure that the value of what everyone in this room does is represented.”
