Live Review: The Whitlams + Luke Carlino - The Gov, Adelaide (11.10.14)

It was by luck that I stumbled on a gig listing which promoted The Whitlams' return to Adelaide recently. Returning to The Gov for the first time in some years, the Sydneysiders were met with a warm reception, as they always are when they play here. Sure, their show with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra a few years ago was magical, but there's something about a classic 'Whitlams-at-The-Gov' show that has never lost its sheen.

The Whitlams teaming up with symphony orchestras once more for June and August tour.

Following a three year period out of the spotlight, The Whitlams are back to perform another run of concert shows with some of the country's best symphony orchestras through June and August. Having previously earned much kudos for their show with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Whitlams will be recreating and rearranging their classic material for fans in ways many may not have seen before.

Adelaide Fringe Review: The Whitlams & The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra + James D Smith - The Depot, Adelaide (16.03.13)

The Depot is one of the brand new pop up venues especially constructed for the Adelaide Fringe Festival and since its opening, it’s attracted large crowds down the west end of the city. Tonight, a huge stage has been erected for the venue’s first major scale concert, featuring the talents of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. I’m here for The Whitlams and once I got over the fact that people had paid upwards of $145 for the ‘VIP’ tickets, I was quite settled in to see the Sydney band perform with the ASO.

the AU interview: Tim Freedman of The Whitlams (Sydney)

The Whitlams will be returning to the touring circuit in 2013, with a run of shows coming up very soon as part of the Optus-presented Flix in the Stix. Travelling through most regional centres, the Sydney band will open the short film event with a set of their classic hits before punters get access to viewing some awesome pieces of film. I chat with Tim Freedman about the Flix tour as well as what fans of The Whitlams can be expecting from them further on in the year.

We continue with our Best of the 90's series with a look at the ten Australian albums our contributors have voted as their favourite of the 1990s. With The Living End currently touring every album they've ever released around the country, perhaps it's only appropriate that we kick off this countdown with their self-titled 1998 release.

Photo Gallery: The Workers Balmain Opening Party ft. The Whitlams (26.09.12)

At the reported place of the Labor party's birth, Balmain has been given a new bar: The Workers. To celebrate the opening, guests were treated to delicious tacos, stuffed jalapenos, cocktails, Bob Hawke himself and the stylings of The Whitlams - well, two thirds of them anyway. The bar, though intimate on first glance, has tucked in an outdoor area and some rooms out the back, all accompanied by a first class menu. A new destination for Sydneysiders? You bet.
