Red Hot Chili Peppers dominate and D’Angelo returns on Day Three at Bonnaroo 2012

The Red Hot Chili Peppers dominated day three of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, on a day that boasted skilful sets from the likes of Alice Cooper, Australia's own The Temper Trap, The Roots and the long-awaited return of D’Angelo.

Album Release News Weekly: Friday the 2nd March 2012

Good day all! Much like last week, it’s been a little slower on the album news front again - it must be that time of year. Anyway, there’s still plenty to be excited about with releases from Selah Sue, Sam Sparro, Black Spiders, Regina Spektor, Battles, Cold Chisel, Santigold and more. Get psyched because here’s the news.

Attendance at the Adelaide Big Day Out was way down this year, but the enthusiasm level of the crowd was high. A scaled down show, minus the eastern states headliner Kayne West and one main stage gave this festival a more intimate feel. Between the main stage and the Guvera skate stage, Legends of Vert performed on the half pipe skate ramp. Perfect weather for an enjoyable day of music.

Live Review: Big Day Out - Flemington Racecourse (29.01.12)

Ah Big Day Out… the festival that has been running like a freight train year after year only to be halted this year by slow ticket sales and a ‘weak lineup’. And despite all my concerns leading into the day Ken West (minus Vivian Lees for the first time ever) pulled it off and put on a more than enjoyable day.

Live Review: Battles + Witch Hats + Other Places - The Forum (28.01.12)

There was a thing at this gig that became curiously weird; Battles, a mainly instrumental band using new styles of music composition were playing in a venue with old concrete walls. Walking into particular areas of The Forum and then smelling an odour of dampness was peculiar for a place that looked hugely grandiose from the outside (although I’ve been in venues that have smelt worse). If it was a person, The Forum would be with growing old with dignity as rather than getting painful facelifts to retain its youth.

Nick Lalak takes us on a visual journey of the aural adventure that Battles provided the Metro Theatre crowd, with support from Canyons and Pink Flod.

Ten songs we can't wait to hear at the 2012 Big Day Out.

In spite of lagging ticket sales, the 2012 Big Day Out boasts one of the strongest lineups in years. Sure, you've got a couple of frequent visitors, but from the top to the bottom, artists we've never seen in Australia litter the lineup, alongside the best in local talent. So we've put together 10 tracks we can't wait to hear at Big Day Out - some we'll be hearing for the first time, some old favourites - which was actually terribly difficult to narrow down. This should be one hell of a party.

Battles - Gloss Drop (2011 LP)

Battles are weird right? I mean they forsake common forms of verse and chorus and generic sounds to create something a bit different to other bands. Something edgy, experimental, even scientific but all the while quite catchy and dancey.

So it’s without surprise that the much anticipated sophomore album Gloss Drop delivers on these fronts, keeping the band true to its unique form of madness while still creating a highly listenable record.
