Turns out World Emoji Day is a thing and so is the Emoji Movie; T.J. Miller to lend his vocal talents

Whether you knew it or not, last Sunday (July 17th) was World Emoji Day, an actual day to celebrate those yellow faces that present our emotions better than we can through words. The day was probably best celebrated by Deadpool and Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller, however, as he became the first actor officially attached to Sony Animated’s Emoji Movie: Express Yourself.

T.J. Miller will voice Gene, who was supposed to be a “meh” emoji like his parents. However, the optimistic character has a glitch that causes him to have multiple expressions outside of his control. The film will be set inside the world of a smart phone.

Miller is currently working on Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Alex Ward’s science fiction novel Ready Player One, in which he plays online troll i-R0k.

Anthony Leondis (Igor) will direct the screenplay to be written by himself and Eric Siegel (Men at Work). EmojiMovie: Express Yourself is looking for an August release next year.
