Tropfest judging panel to feature Simon Baker and director Jocelyn Moorhouse

Tropfest, Australia’s most prestigious short film festival has announced the judging panel that will decide the winner of the 16 finalists, this Sunday on Valentine’s Day at Sydney’s Centennial Park.

The Mentalist star Simon Baker and Packed to the Rafters actress, Rebecca Gibney will join Moulin Rouge! cinematographer Don McAlpine, and director of The Dressmaker Jocelyn Moorhouse on the judging panel, with more judges to be announced in the next coming days.

The winning film maker will take home the coveted fruit trophy, along with a prize pack including: $10,000 cash, a trip to Los Angeles for a week of meeting with film executives, a Hyundai Tuscon for a year, and a Nikon D800 and $2,000 worth of lenses and accessories.

The festival fun will begin from 11am when gates open for Trop Jr, the world’s largest short film festival for kids, presented by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. Fifteen short films from film makers aged 15 years and younger will make their premiere with winners announced at 2:30pm.

From 3pm onwards, Tropfest will feature live music sets from rock duo Winterbourne, KLP, and The Preatures singer Gideon Bensen.

Along with the live viewing at Sydney’s Centennial Park, Tropfest viewing events will be held at venues across Australia. SBS 2 will also be streaming the action directly onto television from 9pm AEDT, and SBS Online will be live streaming it at sbs.com.au/movies/tropfest.
