Before the release of The Gambler’s official trailer we’ve been treated to the Red Band teaser. And boy it is packs a punch in its limited time.
The Gambler tells the tale of Jim Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a literature professor with a penchant for gambling. After incurring a debt to Neville (Michael K. Willams) the mob cracks down on him in order to get their money back. Jim seeks out the assistance of loan shark Frank (John Goodman) to help repay the sum..
A remake of the 1974 James Caan film, The Gambler looks to retain a lot of the same tone as the mob launches an unmitigated war against Jim and Frank’s F**k you speech gives the teaser a running theme.
Juxtaposing between the lavish and the bleak, The Gambler is already in talks of being an Oscar contender.
The Gambler is written by William Monahan (The Departed) and directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and also stars Jessica Lange and Brie Larson.
The Gambler is scheduled for release in Australia on March 5th 2015.
