Sydney Film Festival announces 21 finalists and distinguished jury for Lexus Australian Short Film Fellowship

Sydney Film Festival and Lexus Australia have announced today 21 filmmakers which have been shortlisted by the producers at The Weinstein Company to compete in the largest cash fellowship for short film in Australia.

Taking part in the selection process, Australian actress Judy Davis will take the role of Jury Chair. Other jury members include Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley, Lexus Australia’s Adrian Weimers, and Australian producers Jan Chapman AO and Darren Dale.

All the jury members will participate in the selection process of the short film projects choosing up to four filmmakers. Each person will receive a fellowship grant of $50,000. The four successful winners will be announced at the Sydney Film Festival (8-19 June 2016).

The Weinstein Company have chosen 10 female and 11 male filmmakers from over 355 Australians who entered in last year’s Lexus International short film competition, the Lexus Short Film Series. The Series was recently won by Australian actor and filmmaker Damian Walshe-Howling, alongside three other filmmakers from France, South Korea and the USA.

Jury Chair Judy Davis says “It’s an honour to be chosen as the first Jury Chair of the Lexus Australia Short Film Fellowship. I’m very much looking forward to being part of the selection process and exploring the work of this new generation of Australian filmmakers.”
