Sony are reviving plans for a solo Venom Movie

When Sony and Marvel reached an agreement that allowed Spider-man to appear in the MCU, plans for a Venom movie were scrapped. Now the project is back on track with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing and Dante Harper writing the script.

Venom won’t be part of the deal that saw Spidey get a spot in the Avengers so he will be carrying the Sony side of things on his own. This presumably means that it it will be a story without Spider-man.

There is no word yet which Venom will be used, whether it be the more villainous  Eddie Brock or one-time Guardian of the Galaxy Flash Thompson.

The last time we saw Venom on screen was in Spider-Man 3 where he was played by Topher Grace. The movie was a critical mess and Venom was shoehorned in thanks to studio pressure and Sam Raimi’s dislike of the character.

We’ll keep you informed as more details emerge.
