Shadow Electric Outdoor Cinema & Bar is bidding us farewell

Shadow Electric Outdoor Cinema & Bar in the Sacred Heart courtyard in Abbotsford is closing down, amidst plans for a reopening in 2017.

On Thursday January 12, 2012, a sold-out screening of Drive welcomed the Shadow Electric outdoor cinema to the Abbotsford Content in the Sacred Heart courtyard. Since then, it’s become a cultural institution of the north side. Five seasons, almost 400 film screenings and 1,000s of ping pong matches later – it’s time for Shadow Electric to embark on its next chapter.

In late 2014 the Abbotsford Convent was the beneficiary of a multi-million dollar grant from the federal government – the money, combined with a generous contribution from the Dara foundation is going to be used to both restore and redevelop the buildings that surround the Sacred Heart courtyard into an exciting new cultural hub of entertainment.

The bandroom will continue to host local shows throughout the year, and will also be throwing dozens of larger shows at the historic Estonian House in Brunswick, however the cinema is taking a hiatus.

You can join the crew in their beloved courtyard in the coming weeks with the likes of Spotlight, The Big Lebowski and Hail, Caesar! gracing the big screen, before Sunday April 10. On the Sunday, they are throwing a farewell bash which will see them join forces with Wax’o Paradiso for a music, art and visual extravaganza.
