Paramount Pictures have announced a fourth Star Trek film

We’re merely two days away from Star Trek: Beyond’s release in Australia and Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot and Skydance have let the world know that the series isn’t over yet, with a fourth film in the rebooted franchise already in the works – the fourteenth cinematic release in the iconic sci-fi brand’s impressive 50 years.

The yet-to-be-titled installment will see Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) meet his father, who as you may recall passed away before he was born. Chris Hemsworth who starred as George Kirk for a very brief stint in the 2009 film, will return.

It is expected that the rest of the cast will reprise their roles, with the exception of Anton Yelchin who passed away tragically earlier this year.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay with J.J. Abrams back to produce. There is no word on whether Justin Lin will return to direct the film. He’s currently working on Space Jam 2.

Star Trek: Beyond opens in cinemas on July 21.
