Marvel’s Iron Fist full length trailer lands a sucker punch

Released a little earlier today and in case you may have missed it, Netflix have officially dropped the full length trailer for its next big series Marvel’s Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist follows the story of Danny Rand (Finn Jones, ex Game of Thrones), a young man who returns to New York after being gone for 15 years and presumed dead. Danny is the heir to the Rand Corporation along with his best friend Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup ex The Following) and her older brother Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey, ex Banshee), as both their father’s co-owned the organisation.

Danny’s miraculous return from the dead though ruffles the feathers of Harold Meachum (Australia’s own David Wenham, ex Banished) and the mysterious shadowy organisation known as The Hand. However in order for Danny to rid his company of The Hand’s manipulative grip on both Rand Corporation and its stranglehold on New York’s streets with its drug importation racket, he must channel his inner strength and become the Iron Fist.

One thing is for certain with this next series, it is heavily influenced by and has its world steeped in the martial arts. With Danny having trained and been taught martial arts by the monks of Kun-Lun, a mystical place between realms and dimensions.

Sound familiar? It’s almost a little like Doctor Strange yes? Almost, but Danny’s power comes from him channeling his Chi energy to generate his powerful glowing actual iron fist that can smash through walls Hulk-style and remain unharmed by swords. But setting aside his amazing fist, the fight sequences look ridiculously good and as we’re already aware of the calibre of stuntwork from the previous shows we’re sure to be in for some intense fight scenes.

As we also mentioned, there is deep ties and connections to The Hand and Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) and it’s Danny’s sworn duty to defeat The Hand and restore order. It’s also exciting to see the return of Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), the sassy and constantly exasperated nurse who always seems to end up hanging out with superheroes and becoming their on-call medical patch-up service. And we are introduced to yet another strong female character in Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) who befriends Danny when he first arrives back to New York and will become a crucial fighting ally thanks to her martial arts skills.

Following on from its already hugely successful other Marvel titles, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and most recently Luke Cage; Iron Fist is the last of the characters that will also feature in its ensemble series Marvel’s The Defenders (which is due for release later this year). But before we get to see all of our supercharged street-level superheroes team up we will delve into the back/origin story for Danny Rand aka Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Iron Fist will be available to binge to your heart’s and eyes pleasure from 17 March on Netflix Australia.
