Jennifer Lopez stuns in first trailer for lavish musical Kiss of the Spider Woman

Will Jennifer Lopez finally secure herself an Oscar nomination?

After the Hustlers snub that still hits hard these years later, the multi-hyphenate performer is in full movie musical mode in Kiss of the Spider Woman, an adaption of the 1992 musical based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Manuel Puig.

The movie, which is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981 during the Dirty War, stars Tonatiuh as Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor. To escape the horrors of his imprisonment, Molina imagines films starring a classic screen actress named Ingrid Luna (Lopez), including a role of the spider woman, who kills her prey with a kiss.  Molina’s life is upended when a Marxist, Valentin Arregui Paz (Diego Luna), is brought into his cell, and the two form an unlikely bond.

Written and directed by Chicago scribe Bill Condon, Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews for its cast, specifically Lopez, who many hailed as giving a career-best performance.

With a fourth quarter release set (it’ll dazzle the screen from October this year), expect this musical drama to be a major contender in the award season.  Academy Award winner Jennifer Lopez just feels right, doesn’t it?
