Interview: Matthew Davis talks The Vampire Diaries, adaptability as an actor and being a fan of vampire mythology ahead of Oz Comic Con Sydney

It’s not always the case that something you are fascinated by intersects with the work you do, but for actor Matthew Davis, star of the hit tv series The Vampire Diaries he’s one of the lucky ones. In 2009 Davis took on the role of Alaric Saltzman, the high-school history teacher who is secretly a vampire hunter. However Alaric’s character went on to experience a number of changes over the course of his time on the show, including death and resurrection and even being changed into a vampire.

Visiting Australia for the very first time as part of the Brisbane and Sydney legs of Oz Comic Con, we sat down for a chat with Davis. In part one of our interview he talks about seeing some of the Sydney sights. Working on The Vampire Diaries and his favourite “version” of Alaric Saltzman. As well as getting to jump over on to the spin-off show The Originals and working with the classy vampires.

In part two of our interview with Davis, he discusses the most revolutionary thing he learnt whilst working on The Vampire Diaries. The outcome of that alien rock prank and mysterious phone call. As well as his love of vampire mythology and how surprisingly that wasn’t what drew him to working on the show.

Matthew Davis will be appearing at Oz Comic Con Sydney this weekend.
ICC Darling Harbour – Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October.
