Returning to the Gold Coast, it was more than an overwhelming homecoming for musician Peter Andre ahead of the premiere screening of his new film, Jafaican, as part of this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival.
Described as “not your average heist movie”, Fredi Nwaka‘s crime comedy focuses on Gazza (played by Andre), a small-time crook, who seeks £35,000 for his gran’s care. He overhears a tip, devising a scheme. In 21 days, he must master Jamaican culture to execute a fraud in London and Jamaica, facing life-threatening risks in the process.
As the “Mysterious Girl” hitmaker navigated through swarms of fans and family members – some he hadn’t seen for over two decades – Peter Gray had a brief red carpet moment with both Andre and director Nwaka, asking about their collaboration.
Fredi, what surprised you the most about working with a musician like Peter?
Fredi Nwaka: For me, I’d say it was just me being blown away by his talent. Everyone knows him as a singer, as a presenter…but as an actor? His comedic timing is on point, his attention to detail is on point. He’s a great actor, man. I think he’s going to do a lot of great stuff.

Peter, what made you take this leap into acting at this stage of your career?
Peter Andre: I did acting as a child. Music was a dream. So when the music happened, I just ran with it and I never looked back. I always said that when I got into my 40s I would definitely get into acting. And I did. And Fredi’s such an incredible director. And this is actually the second film we’ve done together, but it’s the first where I’m the lead.
If you could describe Jafaican as a song, how would you describe it?
Peter Andre: That’s a good question.
Fredi Nwaka: That’s a great question. As a song, it’s a high octane vibe, it’s full of fun and full of love.
Peter Andre: I can’t beat that description (laughs).
Jafaican screened as part of this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival, which ran between April 30th and May 11th, 2025, and will be screening at an exclusive one-night only event at New Farm Cinemas on 14th May, 2025. You can boom your tickets here.
