Interview: Griffin Newman talks about playing Arthur in the new incarnation of The Tick

Now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, The Tick is a super hero parody unlike any other, based on the comic book of the same name. Across a three part interview, we had the chance to sit down with with actor Griffin Newman, who plays Arthur Everest, sidekick of the eponymous Tick.

In part one, Griffin discusses his role as Arthur and memories of The Tick growing up, saying “The Tick was always one of those ones that seemed so appealing from afar because it was clearly operating on this weird kind of slanted angle from the mainstream superhero stuff”.

Griffin continues on, discussing what it means for creator and executive Ben Edlund to carry on The Tick all the way through to its latest, realistic Amazon iteration. Griffin comments saying “If you want to get comedy out of The Tick and Arthur in a slightly more realistic setting, the best way to do that is to hire the guy that made the images that you’re parodying”.

Griffin also talks about fellow actor Peter Serafinowicz who plays the titular character and how he fits the role of The Tick so well, commenting ” The second I heard Peter’s name I went oh my God, it is so obvious and so exciting at the same time, it was like of course of course, that’s exactly who should play The Tick”, later adding that ” I think he brings a real interesting edge to it”.

The Tick is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
