Has Aaron Paul been cast in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower?

Blastr reported this week that Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul has been cast in the Sony adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series.

As this stage, there is no confirmation as to who Paul has been cast as. Those familiar with King’s work, however, will recognize the instant potential for Paul in the character of Eddie Dean. A smartass, a gunslinger and a heroin addict, Eddie would be a somewhat natural extension of Paul’s acclaimed work as Jesse Pinkham on AMC’s Breaking Bad. Additionally, Paul has previously taken to Twitter to express an interest in playing Eddie, describing the role as a “huge dream” of his.

However, Eddie doesn’t appear until the second book in the Dark Tower series and Paul’s potential for the role then raises more questions than answers in regards to the film’s plot, and its relation to King’s work. Though, King has revealed previously, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, that, “[The film] starts in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning.”

So, will Dark Towers offer a fusion of more than one book in the series or something a little more patchwork? We’ll have to wait until its release, in February 2017, to find out.

Paul will potentially join Idris Elba, as Roland, and Matthew McConaughey, as The Man in Black, with A Royal Affair’s Nikolaj Arcel set to direct.
