Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda to pen new songs for a live action The Little Mermaid

Th rumoured live-action movie for The Little Mermaid seems to have been confirmed with Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda and the film’s original composer Alan Menken signed on to write the songs for the film.  Miranda is known for his work on Broadway musicals such as Les Miserables and Hamilton, while Menken is known for his work on the original The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.

The songs will create a blend of the classic musical numbers from the original film and news songs made exclusively for the live-action adaptation.

Lin-Manuel Miranda will also be producing the film alongside Marc Platt, who has produced such films as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The Girl on the Train.

This announcement follows the recent trend of adapting classic animated Disney movies to live-action feature films. The Jungle Book found massive success this year, while Beauty and the Beast is scheduled for release next year.

Currently, The Little Mermaid has no official release date.
