Filming begins on Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star is Born remake

Filming has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ re imagining of the musical A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Stefani Germanotta, (better known as the incomparable Lady Gaga) in her first leading role in a major motion picture. It also marks Cooper’s directorial debut as he helms the musical drama.

Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a country music star who is on the brink of decline when he discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). As the two begin a passionate love affair, Jack coaxes Ally into the spotlight, catapulting her to stardom. But as Ally’s career quickly eclipses his own, Jack finds it increasingly hard to handle his fading glory.

Germanotta, who earned an Oscar nod for the song Til It Happens to You from The Hunting Ground, has composed and will perform original songs in the film. The main cast also includes Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Elliott.

This is the third remake of the 1937 film which starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason in the lead roles and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

A Star is Born is slated for a 2018 release.
