Bad Girl wins Best Film at the 28th Annual Western Australia Screen Awards

The Australian independent feature film Bad Girl is celebrating today after  taking home two awards last night at the 28th Annual Western Australia Screen Awards.

Directed by Fin Edquist, the film stars Samara Weaving (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Mystery Road) and Sara West (Ash vs Evil Dead, The Daughter). It’s a thriller that sees a rebellious daughter returning home to her adopted parents after a stint inside a youth corrections facility. Warren Ellis (the long time Nick Cave collaborator) provides a moody score to set the tone.

Bad Girl is quite the departure from Edquist’s past scriptwriting experiences for Blinky Bill: The Movie and House Husbands. The thriller won Best Long Form Drama at the 28th Annual Western Australia Screen Awards, as well as being recognised for its achievement in Best Sound.

Producer, Steve Kearney (Oddball) said, “It’s an honour to have received this recognition from the WA Screen Awards and it validates the film’s fearless next generation of talent. The performances they have crafted will keep audiences on the edge of their seats for years to come.”

Kearney also revealed, “It was a thrill to make Bad Girl given we worked on authentic Australian locations with young and exciting filmmakers.” This will be one to look out for come August 2016.

Bad Girl premieres at the Melbourne International Film Festival, screening on 11 and 13 August 2016. You can grab more details about it HERE.
