The Grounds of Alexandria now has its own on-site bakery (Sydney)

Alexandria destination The Grounds is well experienced with serving its patrons artisan breads and pastries but their latest venture, The Bakery, will see this offering carried through with even more gusto and allow for some exciting exclusives. Think trays of lime & meringue tartlets, freshly baked Pigion Seed loaf, a pistachio olive oil and polenta cake and all manner of other delicious baked goods.

“The Bakery is more than freshly baked dough, the new design and layout shifts the whole experience of a bakery to another level” says Ramzey Choker, Co-Founder and Director of The Grounds.

The interior will have a larger and more engaging environment where patrons can dine-in, take out, and even learn how to master their own home baking once a schedule of classes rolls out. This new open format bakery allows guests to watch the artisan bakers at work, showcasing the work of custom build-ins and a massive signature green enamelled refrigerator, just like the familiar Grounds branded coffee mugs.

The space, created by the award- winning team of Caroline Choker, interior designer, and Vince Alafaci, an Architect with ACME&Co introduces a fresh look inspired by classic bakeries around the world while still maintaining the industrial roots of The Grounds itself.

In terms of the goods, The Bakery sources ingredients both locally and internationally to bring globally influenced delicious treats to the backyard of Alexandria, using their own various baking methods, yeasts, proofing times, and ingredients, developing by Group Executive Chef Paul McGrath. Some of the highly anticipated fresh loaves include Charcoal BambooAsh White Sourdough, left to rise over 18 hours to create exceptional character and complexity; Olive and Rosemary, plump with olives, smooth, and round, with rosemary that is freshly picked from on-site garden every day; Fig and Walnut, with 20 hours of prep time per loaf, loaded with sweet figs, contrasted by the crunch of Californian walnuts.

Opening just a few days ago, The Bakery is a big step in the continual evolution of The Grounds; an evolution that next year will include a second property on the lower north shore
