The 6 best Father’s Day menus in Sydney for 2018

Whenever Father’s Day comes around Sydneysiders are tempted in every direction by some of the city’s top restaurants, all of which offer up special menus to help you treat dad the right way. It’s often one of the best days of the year to really tease out a dining destination’s finest dishes at reasonable prices, so make sure you’re choosing wisely this year. To help you we’ve rounded up five of our favourites, from the perfect steak in Circular Quay to the faultless union of whiskey and chicken.

Mode Kitchen & Bar (CBD)

Very few – if any – foolproof Father’s Day celebrations don’t end with the perfect steak. It’s a tried and tested way Father’s Day essential, so if you really want to nail your old man’s special day this year you’re going to want to take him straight to the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney on Sunday 2nd September because their consistently excellent on-site restaurant, Mode Kitchen & Bar, is offering one of the best lunches around town this year.

Celebrate Father’s Day with an exclusive three-course lunch set menu custom designed by Head Chef Francesco Mannelli who has put together a list which highlights the kitchen’s signature grass-fed, dry-aged steaks, cooked to perfection in their wood-fire oven. Not only that, but the steaks are complemented by outstanding produce like Mt Cook Salmon served with asparagus, lemon and stracciatella; duck & pork belly terrine with cucumber, pistachio and grilled sourdough; and dessert like Mode’s signature tiramisu.

For the main course, all guests will have a choice between either a grilled 1kg grass fed T-bone 3 week dry aged, or a grass fed rib eye 800g 6 week dry aged. That’s some serious quality right there, and to sprinkle something extra on it all, Chef Francesco will also be treating 10 lucky fathers to a masterclass experience on the day, aimed at learning how to cook the perfect steak.

The special three-course Father’s Day menu is only available on Sunday 2nd September from 12pm to 4pm for $75 per person. Bookings are available and can be made on +61 2 9250 3160, by contacting [email protected], or by visiting the restaurant’s official website here.

Newmarket Room (Warwick Farm)

Here’s one those who usually stick to the CBD for Father’s Day might want to venture west for. The lush 5-star William Inglis Hotel is putting the spotlight on their resident Newmarket Room restaurant this Father’s Day with a special paddock-to-plate menu put together by Executive Chef Sercan Kesici. The “Cattleman’s Cut” menu will surely please any steak-loving dad with its epic MSA Riverine Prime Ribeye Beef Steak accompanied by roasted seasonal veggies and creamy mash potato, shiraz jus and béarnaise sauce. Of course, there’s going to be a whole heap of delicious fare on the menu, but at $90 for a 800 gram steak (for two to share of course) you’ll be a fool not to go straight for this.

Belles Hot Chicken (Barangaroo; Forest Lodge)

Belles Hot Chicken co-founder and Head Chef Morgan McGlone has pieced together a Father’s Day brunch menu that shoots straight for the heart this year, celebrating the three precious W’s in life: waffles, wings and whiskey. That means the dominate chicken shack has partnered with Buffalo Trace Whiskey for a special “Belles Old Fashioned” which they will serve up alongside an exclusive “Belles Boilermaker menu”, where dad can get a pot of beer and a shot of whiskey to help soothe the famous Belles’ heat.

The menu will only be offered on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September so make sure you’re well prepared by making a booking at belleshotchicken.com.

NOMAD (Surry Hills)

Surry Hills’ favourite NOMAD is usually closed on Sundays, but for this Father’s Day the long-standing restaurant will keep the doors open for two special one-off menus. First is a $69 “Father’s Day Feast”, and second is a $95 “Father’s Day Bigger Feast” (which obviously bumps the number of dishes up for the slightly more hungrier). Both will feature a what’s what of the restaurant’s all-time greatest hits like the Cannellini Bean Hommus, Housemade NOMAD Charcuterie or the Ice Cream Sandwich with Olive Oil Parfait, Halva Crumble, Pistachio and Honey to finish. A kids menu will also be available.

The Toxteth (Glebe)

This Glebe institution very recently lifted the curtain on a substantial makeover, so of course they’ll be charging head first into this year’s Father’s Day. They’re going to want to show off all that new paint, so there will be a classic pub day out going on in the all-new open-air courtyard with a completely revamped food and drink menu featuring wines and cocktails on tap and a nice showcase of local micro-breweries. It’s still a pub, so expect big screens for sport-watching while dad works his way through the likes of Crisp Fried Fish Wings and Beef Cheek Pie. Lunch and dinner will be served from 12pm to 9pm on Sunday 2nd September.

Verandah Bar at The Royal Paddington (Paddington)

Any meat-loving dads should be cheering that Father’s Day falls on a Sunday this year. Because even though we ain’t in the UK, there’s still plenty of venues around town that pay homage to the classic Sunday Roast session. This year your best bet will be Verandah Bar at The Royal Paddington which will be putting up a special twist on their “Host a Roast” with a traditional English feast including hand-carved roast beef, honey glazed carrots, baby chat potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and housemade gravy. All guests will receive a complimentary glass of house wine or beer on arrival, with the feast priced at a very reasonable $35pp (for lunch roast or dinner).

Bookings are available from 12pm to 8:30pm via royalhotel.com.au.
